Although the archaeologically accurate neoclassical detailing of this
room makes it appear to be of significant age, the room was actually designed
by the firm in 1995 and completed in 1996. The semicircular space was
designed to house and display special collections within the newly renovated
Lucy Scribner Library. This room boasts architectural detailing and craftsmanship
of the highest order. The entire domed and barrel-vaulted ceiling is finished
plaster with hand-run inscribed moldings. The rusticated front wall and
aedicula are of clear maple and mahogany and the custom-designed columns
within the aedicula feature capitols, annulation rings and bases of bronze.
The carpeting, vitrines and lectern were similarly designed by the firm.
The light and spirited display of classical detailing was designed to
commemorate the life and interests of Anita Pohndorf. The room was given
in her memory by her husband, Harry Yates.
